Momento Mori. This is the reason for this blog.
Momento Mori translates to “Remember you will die.” Now, not to be morbid or to get off on the wrong foot but at some point we will die. That’s factual. If you know how to be immortal, let me know, we can start a business.
There is a song by Scotty McCreery called “The Dash” that says basically on our tombstone there will be two numbers/dates separated by a hyphen or a dash. Your whole life will be fit into that dash. Every breath you took, every word that was spoken, and every memory you held will be in that dash. I want to make that dash mean something.
Proverbs 13:22 states, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” To me this means, I am here to provide for my family and my descendants and I must do so in a giving manner. If I am gluttonous or greedy, there will be no one to leave an inheritance rather what I do accumulate I must leave for all to enjoy.
Inheritance does not mean money only. I would like to think I would have enough money left over to give to my grandchildren but rather what I want to give is time, memories, and lessons/teachings. I want to give things to my grandchildren that my grandparents gave to me. My maternal grandpa would take me shooting and fishing. We spent a lot of time in the outdoors together. My paternal grandparents gave me lessons on cooking, craftsmanship, and imagination.
I want to be able to leave non-material things to my children and grandchildren so they may have the memories I have of my parents and grandparents.
There is a saying out there that says, “You die twice. Once when you give your last breath and once when your name is said for the last time”. So after you no longer have life, your name will “die” when you are no longer remembered. I want to live for as long and I can both on earth and in the lives of my family.
This blog is the beginning of something new. It is purposeful. It has meaning. Come on this DADventure with me and let’s explore!
