The Things We Do For Our Kids

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is the bane of my existence. I’ve never enjoyed it at least in recent history. Maybe when I was a kid I liked it better but that’s probably because we would go to my cousins’ house and hang out and trick or treat in their subdivision.

But my wife has to drag me into a Halloween costume. I do not enjoy it but I end up doing it for our kids. I know they enjoy it so I, in turn, will also enjoy it. This year we are going as The Wizard of Oz characters.

As a dad I do thing for my kids I never saw myself doing until I had them. For example, we create voices for our oldest stuffed animals or make loud noises just to make loud noises. These are things I would never do if I was by myself but with my kids and playing games or expanding their imagination is not only good for them but it’s good for me, too. I end up bonding with them and playing an active role in their life.

So next time there’s something to do with your kids that’s a little outside your comfort zone, take advantage of it and do something you normally do. Then you can say with confidence “the things I do for you”.
