Parents. Dudes. Gals. Burnout is real. It’s not just an ideology or a saying but burnout happens to us all. It is different for each of us, too. One persons burnout might be another person standard operation. Or it could be someone’s heavy crashing. But we all experience it and we all experience it differently.
I am currently on a slow burn. I haven’t had a day off since Labor day (it is Nov 17th at time of writing) and I’m slowing losing it. It is a Friday midday. I have a scheduled day off on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, and I am looking forward to it. I also have this weekend coming up to and I am ready. But I’m hitting a wall and I am hitting it hard.
We have baby #3 showing up here any day now. That’s a stress level that is weighing on me along with some money issues. We have the end of the year taxes coming up, Christmas, birthdays… just a lot crashing all at once. It’s taking its toll.
This is also leading to me being short and curt to my kids when they need attention and love. I need time to reset and regroup. We all need to do that more. Some people can deal with stress better than others but we all hit our breaking points. I have two more work days to get through to get to my next day off.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again, use your time off. Use time off to be by yourself. Do some self care. My wife was cut from work early one day and I told her to go take some time to her self. She went and got a pedicure. That’s important. It is a treat for her. She doesn’t get them often but she deserves it.
I’m ready to be off work for a bit.
