Money is an issue. It will always be an issue. But if you can’t talk about money, what can you talk about?
Money is a hot button issue. My spending. Their spending. Our spending. How do we do it? What is the best way? What is the best direction to go? These are all questions that are raised and talked about. But the thing is, when you talk about money, you can open the door to other touchy subject because dissent or animosity goes away. Free and open conversations are the best way and sometimes only way to have a conversation. Otherwise it becomes a yelling match.
But in a marriage, or as a parent, money is always a point of contention. “Why are you spending for that?” “Dad, can I have more money?” “I can’t afford that.” So start by having the conversation early and often. Discuss it. Talk about. Don’t let it be a wedge in your relationships.
