Do Something Different

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result” ~Albert Einstein

The quote is attributed to the one of the GOATs of our time. Not only was Albert a mathematical/scientific genius but he was also wise. He could have been considered a philosopher in some regard.

As a parent, and a dad, we need to do things differently. Our kids grow, they gain new experiences, and thus we need to treat them differently. If we chastised, celebrated, or acknowledged a toddler they way we do a baby, we could stunt or prevent their growth. Likewise when they reach teenagers, we’ll probably need a new dictionary to keep up with their slang. “Groovy”, “Sick”, “Phat”… won’t resonate much with them.

I started putting my phone on focus mode after 7 pm. I’m trying to train my brain to “turn off” during this time to be more present with my kids. Some people don’t have an issue with checking their phone or getting notifications but for me, it is a huge distraction. I need to be better.

I also started to meditate in the mornings. I get up earlier, get going on my morning and then meditate for 10 minutes. I need to do it longer to see how it affects me, but I’m starting something different. We will see how it goes.

So start to do something different that will make your life better. You won’t regret it.
