As a parent life gets crazy, quick. Between work and dinner and bed time there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. Sometimes there is and sometimes there isn’t. But when you plan for tomorrow, you can start to build little wins.
In order to win tomorrow, we need to start today. This gives us a proactive approach in life. My wife is great at this. She does such a great job at making the morning as easy as possible. Waking up behind the 8-ball already puts you at a disadvantage to win. You are already playing catch-up.
Here are few tips to start you day off with wins and to help make your day easier:
Good Nutrition
Eating the right foods during the week will allow you to have the right sleep. I used to drink a lot during the week and have multiple drinks per day. This gave me bad sleep and bad food habits. I’d wake up tired because I went to bed late or didn’t get great sleep from the alcohol. I’d start my day off slow, irritable, and angry because I didn’t get to sleep like I wanted to. I was off in la-la-land and not focusing on my day ahead.
Find clothes and lay them out
When we get up in the morning we are groggy, tired, unfocused. It is difficult to do the things we need to win the day when we are still waking up. Find clothes the night before and lay them out or put them somewhere easily accessible. There is nothing worse than rummaging through a basket or a closet trying to find clothes.
Meal prep/pack lunches
I love meal prepping. At work, we have a full size refrigerator. I have a produce drawer all to myself. I keep a big thing of lettuce in it, blue cheese, protein, and olives. I make a chicken with lettuce salad in the mid morning and have protein in mid afternoon.
At home, the day before the kids go to daycare we pack their lunch. It’s a pretty involved process to pack the lunch as they have snacks, fruit, breakfast, lunch and food for the entire day. So instead of spending 20 minutes in the morning making the lunch for each kid we do it the night before.
Pack Bags
I will pack my workout bag the day before. I make sure I have my pre-workout and my protein powders ready to go. My wife will make sure the diaper bag is fully stocked with extra clothes and diapers for the kids. This saves time in the morning as well as during the day in case they have an accident or need to change.
These are a few tips to help you win the day by starting the day prior. In order to set yourself up for success is to start today. Plan for tomorrow. Execute. There’s nothing worse than being unprepared when you wake up in the morning.
