Do Your Best and Know You Did Your Best

Some days we just rock. We are the star of the show. We get our to-do list done and early. The sense of accomplishment is like energy through our veins.

Other days we get by. We barely make it. Getting up out of bed is one of the hardest things we’ve done and will do. The day slugs along without a end in sight. We lay down for the night and just stare at the ceiling knowing we didn’t accomplish anything. Nada. Zero.

I’ve had both these types of days and everywhere in between. But I look at my day and see where I could have improved or where I excelled.

The first part of the Boy Scout Oath is: “On my honor, I will do my best…” as it precedes a few areas in life where we should be doing our best as in serving God, others, and ourselves.

When we do our best, and I mean our very best, we strive for excellence in all areas. We are human though. We will fail. We will miss. Striving for perfection each day is admirable but also unrealistic. We need to strive for excellence. We should be excelling at what we do.

These past few days I’ve been distracted. Disoriented. Unfocused. My phone, social media, television has got the best of me. I haven’t been doing my best. I been existing. Breathing. Not ready or geared for anything.

When we do our best we are able to recognize the distraction and move past it. Acknowledging is part of the battle but moving on will help you win.

Next time you feel like you’re just floating, drifting, or distracted, acknowledge it and go do what you need to do to put your best effort in for the rest of the day. Start focusing on being better and you’ll get there. It just might not happen overnight.
