Comfort is the enemy of Progress

When we get comfortable we stop progressing. Our floor remains constant and we can no longer achieve new heights.

When we comfortable we start to drift. Drifting is moving along in life without a sense of purpose or direction. This was coined by Napolean Hill in “Outwitting the Devil”.

Drifting starts out ever so slowly as we get comfortable. Things get “easy” or “simple”. We make up lies to ourselves or tell ourselves stories on how “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “That’s enough for today” and then when tomorrow comes it becomes “I did that yesterday” or “I’m kind of tired. I’ll push it off”.

This drifting leads us down a sketchy slope and can be a dark path. We get comfortable so we stop achieving what we need to achieve. As we drift we fall into idle times because we stop trying to do more. We start looking at our screens a bit more, we fall into materialistic traps, or we stop loving the way we need to.

To not fall into the trap of drifting, we need to not be comfortable with our lifestyle. Some people say they achieve when their back is against the wall but I would guess that they achieve when they have a challenge.

When our back is against the wall we were not proactive to challenge ourselves so we manufacture undue pressure onto ourselves. If we put a challenge in front of us, the pressure is lifted and we set goals or benchmarks to get to where we need.

Get out of your comfort zone, start planning wins, and get achieving!
