Living life without standards is easy. No one is holding you accountable so there’s nothing to achieve. When there is nothing to achieve there is no work to be done.
This is why I’ve started to set my standards. It’s been a process. I’ve made changes. I done things differently. I failed. I succeeded.
But I’m holding myself to a set of core values and expectations.
I hold my kids to a level of greatness, I should be able to do the same for myself.
These standards include but are not limited to:
- Working out 3 times a week with 2 times on weekends.
- Waking up the same time each day – between 6 and 6:15
- Having a weekly chore list to be completed
- Reading each night
- Journal writing each night
- Attending Mass or watching Mass each Sunday
These are all things I do to hold myself to a level each week.
Some days I falter.
I might be off my routine like vacation or a trip. Or I’ve had a long day and a little extra tired at night I might miss my reading or fall asleep reading.
But when I miss those days I know I missed it. I don’t feel guilty but I know I didn’t do what I needed to do to WIN that day. I didn’t give it my 100%.
It’s ok to fail. Just improve on it and keep going.
Total failure is knowing what you should be doing and making the conscious decision to not do it. That’s losing.
That’s not being held to a standard.
