Motion is the Lotion

Our bodies are designed to move. For me, God gave me two legs for walking. I realize that *most* of the population were born this way, the average legs per person is less than 2. I consider myself lucky.

This is why I park in the back of parking lots, take the steps when I can, and run for fun. Moving our joints even in low impact tasks, can greatly reduce our risk for illness or disease just by moving.

This is exemplified in “blue zones” such as Sardinia, Italy and Icaria, Greece. A blue zone is an area where the average population are centenarians, or people over the age of 100. There are few common themes through out these locations such as: community, activity, diet, and outlook/the future, as exemplified by the Netflix show, “Blue Zones”

(Disclaimer: I am not an expert, a researcher, or scientist on this. I am merely giving my opinion)

Here, I am solely focusing on the activity/movement component and why it is important to move frequently and what I do to accomplish that. Blue zones exemplify walking, gardening, and other low impact activities as reason to why people live longer. It is only a component but science and medicine back this up.

It also gives people something to look forward to each day. If you have a garden, you want to tend to it, so you will have the fresh produce. Likewise, walking to the grocery store so you can pick up the few items each gets you out of the house and moving.

It’s critical as a parent, and as a dad, that you take care of your bodies. I believe we are here only once, and we need to take care of ourselves to not only be the best version of ourselves but not a liability to others and our family.

The easiest way to do that is to keep and maintain healthy exerise and lifestyle so we can be on this earth as long as long as possible.

Walking, running, gardening, or other activities not only help our joints loosen up and increase our health but it helps us to open our mind and let the thoughts flow between our neurons.

What do you do to move each day? How do you feel about your physical well-being? Is it important to you?
