Mindset Minute

Sometimes we need time to get our mind right. We wake up in a bad mood or something happens to us and we take it personally. That’s the experience of life. Shit happens.

What we do during the day can help us overcome the obstacles of life.

Morning Mindset

Each morning, I started writing the first three things I’m thankful for. I have a habit of picking up my phone right away when I wake up, so I’ve started to take the minute to put the things I am thankful for. It’s always interesting to see what I am thankful for in the first few minutes of consciousness when I look back. I use the Journal App on iPhone.

Midday Mindset

Each day at work, barring severe weather and rain, I take a 45-ish minute walk. This helps to break the routine of the day and gets me out into fresh air and sunlight. It also gives me a break from screen time and be with my thoughts. I typically listen to podcasts to enhance my learning or my own mindset.

Evening/Night Mindset

Each night before bed, I read in my book. Some nights it’s just a few pages, other nights it’s up to an hour. But I set the time aside to learn. After reading I journal. I write down my thoughts on the day. It’s not ground breaking by any means. I’m no Thoreau and this isn’t “Walden”. But I like to put my thoughts down.

Each of these things only take a “minute”. When I say minute, it’s typically longer but that’s how long I need to do it for. When I’m tired, exhausted, or ready for bed, I just need to do it for a minute. That minute usually will end up being longer but I get it done.

Sometimes we need to reset ourselves and planning our day to get our mind right is the first step.
