Effort Requires No Talent

“It cost zero dollars and no talent to give effort.” This is a the crux of Marshall Faulk’s locker room talk to the players at Colorado University.

If you want to be the best or improve at what you do, you don’t have to be the most talented. You just have to give the most effort. Some people do have a “natural” ability greater than yours, but it’s most likely they tried harder earlier. Some of the best athlete’s are the best because they have been practicing longer, harder, more efficiently than the others. They may have started earlier in life. Other athletes, like Michael Jordan or Tom Brady were overlooked by many, then they put in the reps required to be greater than everyone else.

The only thing that separates you from greatness is effort. If you want to be mediocre or normal, do mediocre or normal things. If you want to be the best dad, husband, employee, leader, etc then you have care more.

You have to give effort greater than everyone else. You have to be working at being the best while not being the best.

When you give your best effort, talent will be created. You start to see and feel the changes you are making. You will see that you’re above and beyond where you started all because you are trying.

Don’t stop, though. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Just because you excelled today doesn’t mean you can slack off tomorrow. You have to keep raising that floor. Building momentum.

Give effort. See results.
