Prayer. Because we don’t know all the answers.

As a Dad, I’m reminded daily that I don’t have all the answers. That’s when I realize I need help beyond what I can give myself.

I know a lot of the answers to my children’s philosophical questions. For instance: Why is the sky blue? I’ll answer technically with: “Because the Sun’s rays get refracted off the atmosphere, specifically the ionosphere, and that scattering creates a blue hue.” Then I make it relatable by saying, “You know how in the morning it looks red? The same thing happens during the day, but only blue.”

Sometimes I don’t have all the answers. I might even have questions myself.

Most people can’t answer my questions. ChatGPT can’t even answer my questions.

So how do I get my burning questions answered like: How can I lead my family better? How should I have handled that situation?

I go to prayer.

I ask God to help me through my tough times. I praise Him when I have good times.

“God is always present and available, ready to help carry our burdens. During Holy Week, we reflect on Jesus’ Passion — how He carried not just the wooden cross to Calvary, but the full weight of humanity’s sin. In the same way, He offers to carry our cross when the weight feels too great to bear.”

Prayer carries us through those times.

Matthew 11:28-30 states says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

If you’re going through it, ask God for strength. Ask God to lead you in the way you need to be led so you can help your family be the best versions of themselves.

When it comes to my kids, I don’t always do what I need to do for them. I don’t always get the situation right. I might lose my cool when something breaks or I might get frustrated when they don’t cooperate. That’s where I ask God for strength and patience. I say a short prayer of “God, help me to be strong and patient.” It keeps me grounded and rooted in the face of adversity.

If there’s something on your heart—something you’ve been wrestling with silently—let’s bring it to prayer. Whether it’s fatherhood, marriage, or the weight of just trying to lead well – I’ve been there. Share it below, or comment “Lead me, Lord” for silent intentions, and I’ll lift it up this week. You’re not alone.
