Success isn’t defined by society. Although it, we typically think it is. Flashy cars, nice house(s), a tub full on money, gold chains… the list goes on. You probably have your own idea of success and it aligns with others because its the “rock star” life.
What success really is, is what you define it as. If you want that big flashy life, go for it. If you want what others have, that’s all you. What I’m here to tell you is, it doesn’t have to be that. Success can be whatever it is that you desire.
For me, here’s what success looks like: paid off home, able to take my kids to and from school on my own time, and my wife who doesn’t HAVE to work (she can if she wants, but doesn’t have to). That what success would look like for me.
Guess what? I’m not there yet. I still have mortgage on my home, my kids go to daycare and aftercare, and my wife is working. Am I not successful? Some would say, “no”. What I would say, “Not yet”.
When Mark McGwire hit his first home run as a Oakland A, would people say he wasn’t a successful baseball player? Or when Wayne Gretzky score his first goal as an Oiler was he “The great one then”? No. They were. At that time they were average people out trying to make a name for themselves. They got to the top of their respectful leader boards by putting in the work, the reps, and the time.
Success is rarely “overnight”. There are clues, breadcrumbs, that show glimmers of greatness but someone doesn’t wake up one day having 500 home runs to their name or 800+ goals scored.
When you think about success think about what it means to you. Only you can define it. When we start chasing someone else’s dream we lose hope, focus, or drive. Because it is not OUR dream. When we create our dream we can put in the work to fulfill it.
What I wish for you is chase what you want. Dive deep within you and look for that success. Look at what you truly want. Then chase it. Run after it. Get it.
You’ll always be happier when you find it.
